dessin is an art diary

like a sketchbook — with drawings, works in progress, and a collection of my current inspirations. also like a diary — feelings, fears, and faithful documentation. i don’t know. this is for you if you are an art enjoyer who, like me, is also confused about art all the time. i hope we can support each other and share what inspires us. :)

drawn rabbit sits in a big zen garden

i think creativity always lives somewhere in everyone but its nature is quite pranksterish and slippery and everytime u grab its tail its found a nu corner to thrive in . perhaps the trick is not to force it and put it up against a wall and want it to be in a particular area . but rather w a lot of kindness sniff it out and wonder where it has gone to this time around . if its in sauce recipes , writing theatre plays , papermache improv w nephews , discovering nu hiking routes or simply trying to figure out a family members sense of humour . — bjork

what to expect from usual posts

usually each dispatch, which goes out once or twice a month, includes:

  • studio work: sketchbook pieces, finished pieces, projects, comics, and a diary entry

  • gallery: inspirations from the month

  • life: a reason why life is beautiful :) (because it is!)

reading

in one of dessin’s sections, reading, i write about books i read but ground them in what i was doing in those moments, like a kind of reading autoethnography. it also includes drawings if you’re into that. this is for you if you like books a Normal Amount. i want to hear about your book moments.

what to expect

every once in a while, you can find the following in your inbox:

  • visual summary: a visual summary of the books i read, which looks something like this

a collection of the books i read, detailed below
  • what i read: stuff i read, diary-style

who are you??

hi i am jess! i’m 24 and i have a habit of obsessively writing stuff down. on my blog, noodledesk, i share poems i like, free learning resources i’ve found, and whatever else i’ve recently been obsessed with. i’ve always liked to draw but i’m very scared of it, so i thought that writing about it might make things clearer.

thanks for reading my about page <3
